The following courses are offered at Mr. John's School of Cosmetology, Esthetics & Nails, with an emphasis
on interpersonal relationships and individual instruction. A great deal of attention is given to each student.
Close supervision on the clinic floor enhances the student's opportunities for success upon
graduation.

Cosmetology is the core curriculum. It is a preparatory course for a career as a hair stylist, salon owner,
platform artist, competition stylist, salon manager or owner or manufacturing representative.

The Illinois cosmetologist's license is an umbrella allowing the license holder to practice not only hair but
skin care and nail services. Those who wish to combine an interest in esthetics (360 hours) and nails
(160 hours) can graduate with a major in hair and a minor in esthetics or a major in hair and a minor in
nails.

A cosmetology/nail combo course is available, using the 55 hours of nail technology in the basic cosmetology curriculum and adding another 160 hours of hands-on training in sculptures, tips, gels, fiberglass,
nail art, etc.

A cosmetology/esthetics combo course is available using the 85 hours of esthetics training in the
basic cosmetology curriculum and adding another 360 hours of hands-on training in European facials,
waxing, makeup, aromatherapy, body wraps, etc.

Licensed professionals in the fields of hair, nails and skin care can further their education through
Mr. John's instructor training programs. Instructor training allows the experienced professional the
opportunity to share their knowledge of the industry with up-and-coming students.
Three course outlines are available: cosmetology teacher's training, esthetics teacher's training and
nail technology teacher's training.

The 1,000-hour and 500-hour instructor training courses give the instructor the full privileges of
teaching at any place, any time. The 500-hour course requires a minimum of two years' practical
experience within the preceding five years.
Mr. John's now offers a 250-hour training course. It requires a minimum of two years' experience in
the preceding five years. The instruction can be only on the clinic floor, and instructors are not
allowed to teach theory.

High school students can begin their cosmetology career as early as the summer between their
sophomore and junior years. Vocational cosmetology classes are offered during the high school year
on the Decatur and Jacksonville campuses. Contact your school guidance counselor or the school
director at Mr. John's for information. Credits can be accrued toward high school graduation.
