Curriculum for Cosmetology
Cosmetology is the core curriculum at Mr John’s School of Cosmetology, Esthetics & Nails. It is a preparatory course for a career as a hair stylist, salon owner, platform artist, competition stylist, salon manager or owner or manufacturing representative.
Units of Instruction:
Basic Training 150 hours
Practical Chemical Application/Hair Treatments 500 hours
Hair Styling/Hairdressing 475 hours
Shop Management 200 hours
Esthetics 85 hours
Manicuring 55 hours
Electives 75 hours
*Internship Program (Substitute hours for qualified students) 150 hours

The Illinois cosmetologist’s license is an umbrella allowing the license holder to practice not only hair but skin care and nail services. Those who wish to combine an interest in esthetics (360 hours) and nails (160 hours) can graduate with a major in hair and a minor in esthetics or a major in hair and a minor in nails.
